Shopping - Drakensberg - South Africa

Young boys selling local handicrafts near parks, resorts, and on the roadsides are a common sight in Drakensberg. Most of these articles are made from Gashu, the weaving grass.

This art form is passed from mother to daughter and the products made out of this make a beautiful present back home. Cleverly sculpted clay animals are other souvenirs worth their price in Drakensberg region. Southern Drakensberg has its own arts and crafts route with 80 membersthe Sani Saunter extending from Bulwer to Garden Castle.

Between Bergville and the Royal Natal National Park is the Zulu handicraft centre of Thandanani that sells a variety of traditional beadwork, woodwork and baskets. Known as the Mountain Meander, the route also extends to Central Drakensberg.
